The coffee trend in America began with the boycotting of tea after the Boston Tea Party, in the beginning days of the American War for Independence. Illustrations of Founding Fathers instrumental to this effort are used on these coffee tins to relate to the time period. The secondary purpose of the tins is a coin bank, and so design elements relate to American currency. The tin is a tall cylinder resembling a roll of quarters, and overlays, layering, and type are inspired by dollar bills. The wooden crate, used for display, harkens back to the crates thrown overboard at the Boston Tea Party.
