This chapbook is a brief history of newspapers, particularly their development in Colonial America. It covers invention of the press through the growth of newspapers during the eighteenth century to the establishment of freedom of the press. A gatefold is used to display a timeline of important events. Main colors used are black and white (relating to newspapers), with red to bring attention to important elements. The typeface used for the headlines is Minion Pro, a structured serif font which is balanced by the simplicity of the sans-serif Ebrima used for body copy. Neenah Teton Warm White is the primary paper stock, chosen because its texture and warmth relates to papers of this time period. Break pages use French Speckletone Kraft, furthering the historical feel and contrasting the Teton. “Pressing News” is perfect bound with a soft cover, which is covered with Mulberry printmaking paper, creating a softness and again playing on the traditional quality of the subject matter.
